The history of midtown’s hottest nightclub
In 2001, Cosmopolitan experienced a breakthrough as Midtown Atlanta’s first lounge. Owner, Scott McCray, wanted to elevate the dance club experience, and acquired the building next door. The building was originally built as a residence in the late 1920’s. Much of the original framework is incorporated into the design of the present day club.
The initial concept aimed to provide two neighboring clubs which offered the undeniable nightlife experience. Cosmopolitan Lounge provided a more laid back setting with small kitchen fare, spacious interior and outside patio bar. Lava Lounge catered more to the VIP experience with its posh interior, cutting edge music, and eloquent courtyard. After a successful first year, Scott drew plans to construct a massive patio to connect the two, thus creating the ultimate nightclub experience. For the next 14 years Cosmolava became a staple in Atlanta nightlife. From our famous annual Nightmare on 13th Street Halloween Party to our New Years Eve Extravaganza, Cosmolava continued to cater the best that Atlanta has to offer.
In 2016, Scott turned Cosmopolitan into Foxtrot Liquor Bar. He made the decision to bring Lava back to its roots as a preeminent dance club. Extensive renovations brought a DJ booth to the main floor, a new sound and lighting system throughout, and a separate entrance to CUE Club for promoted underground parties.
